Landscape architect and researcher, Faculty of Architecture, Czech Technical University (ČVUT)
Klára Salzmann is a landscape architect (graduate of the Szt. István University in Budapest) and is presently teaching at the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT). Her whole professional life is devoted to the study of landscape including landscape planning, water in landscape and Green Infrastructure. Currently she is active as a teacher of the new study program of Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, ČVUT. She is actively seeking new contacts with European universities sharing similar study programs. Her professional focus is on the Sudetenland landscape projects. Within the framework of the European capital of culture Pilsen 2015, she participated in a whole line of projects dealing with landscape issues. Perhaps the most important of those was the Czech – German border landscape renewal.
How is the Czech - German mutual relationship perceived by those who failed to understand the complexity of the Czech - German correlation? Needless to say, there is a wide range of answers including the topic of the Czech - German borderland landscape renewal.
It becomes apparent that the base to succeed is a good personal relationship between individuals of both nations, mutual communication, personal friendship, frequent meetings, and the common search for what unites us and what we should do to reach consensus. I consider our common landscape a unifying element. This year‘s hot summer once again clearly demonstrated our mutual dependency, when dried-out rivers in Bohemia failed to deliver enough water to neighbouring Germany.
Are we able to react to such situations in a straightforward and effective way? Will these natural changes teach us to better cooperate and collaborate in the future?
