Important notice on the opening of the legal and consular section of the Embassy Prague

General Information

Under no circumstances is it possible to visit the consular section of the German embassy without making an appointment.

As of 15 June 2020, it will again be possible to make appointments for passport, visa and authentications and certificates via the Embassy's online appointment system.

However, please note that,

  • the embassy cannot provide accompanying persons (exceptions are for the guardians of minor applicants, for an accompanying person of elderly applicants who are not able to walk alone and for an accompanying person who acts as an interpreter for visa applicants who do not speak German, Czech or English sufficiently)
  • -only those persons who have made an appointment and only one person at a time can make an appointment
  • -a maximum of two applicants may be admitted at the same time and must leave the consular unit immediately after completing their administrative procedures
  • -only applicants who present themselves punctually at the beginning of their appointment will be admitted
  • -persons waiting in front of the entrance to the consular post must maintain the minimum distance provided for
  • -Only applicants who have all the supporting documents (in particular completed applications) with them will be admitted.

Passports/ identity cards

Since 11.05.2020, it has again been possible to make appointments for the application of passports and identity cards via the online appointment system.

Please understand that the Embassy is not able to offer any special appointment for applying for a German passport or identity card in addition to the dates offered via the online appointment system. Requests for special pass appointment received here will not be answered.

New appointments are activated one week in advance on each working day.

Only applicants who

  • have downloaded the application from the Embassy's website and have already completed it in full
  • Carry biometric passport photos
  • who have all the original documents mentioned in our leaflets with them (regardless of whether or not they have already applied for a passport at the embassy)
  • who agree that the requested identity documents will be sent to them as a letter of value once they have been issued and who pay the necessary expenses for this

should make an appointment.

The payment of fees can be made cashless only with Visa or Master card and cash only in Czech crowns.

Attestations and certifications

Appointments for certifications and attestations can again be arranged via the online appointment system from 15.06.2020.

People who need a certification that they are alive (Lebensbescheinigung) or that they have left Germany (Grenzübertrittsbescheinigung) must also make an appointment.

Please note that there is a simplified procedure for certification that they are alive for all pensioners of the Deutsche Rentenversicherung abroad. A confirmation of the life certificate by an authority / official body in the respective country of residence is not required. Pensioners fill out the certification that they are alive themselves and return them directly (without confirmation from an official body) to the German Pension Insurance Fund.

Please understand that the Embassy cannot offer any special dates in addition to those offered via the online appointment system. Requests for special dates received here will not be answered.

Please note that only applicants who have all the documents mentioned on our website or in our leaflets in original and who have their permanent residence and domicile in the Czech Republic can be admitted.

Birth announcements

For the time being, appointments for the registration of the birth of a German child and declarations of name can no longer be applied for via the online appointment system, but are allocated by the embassy. Appointments are allocated on Monday, Tuesday and Friday at 11:10 a.m. and on Wednesday at 13:30 p.m. Please let us know on which day you want to come. The embassy will then allocate the next available date.

For this purpose it is necessary that you send the following documents to the embassy as a PDF scan with e-mail to konsulat@prag.diplo.de :

1. the vompletey filled out form for birth announcement,

2. birth certificate of the child

3. birth certificate of both parents

4. marriage certificate of the parents or paternity certificate

5. passport/identity card and/or nationality card of both parents

After checking the documents, the embassy will inform you of the date on which you can come to the embassy. As a precautionary measure, we would like to point out that the allocation of an alternative date is unfortunately not possible in principle.

Please note that only applicants who have the originals of all the documents listed on our website or in our information leaflets with them and who have already completed the application for the subsequent certification of the foreign birth can be admitted.

Czech civil status documents must be accompanied by the original multilingual form according to Regulation (EU) 2016/1191, paternity certificates must be translated by an officially sworn interpreter.

Payment of fees can be made cashless only with Visa or Master Card and cash only in Czech crowns.

Visa Appointments

Appointments to apply for a visa can again be made via the online appointment system.

Visas for the purpose of Working Holiday in Germany cannot be booked at the Embassy in Prague for the time being. The embassy will inform on its website as soon as the application is possible again.

Please understand that the Embassy is not able to offer any special appointments in addition to the dates offered via the online appointment system. Inquiries about special visa dates received here will not be answered.

Only applicants who

  • -have completely filled in the videx application form on the embassy's website and printed it out
  • Carry biometric passport photos
  • have the original of all documents mentioned in our information sheets with you
  • and have booked an appointment for the visa category intended for the purpose of the stay

should make an appointment.

Accompanying persons cannot be admitted in principle, unless the visa applicant is not sufficiently proficient in German, English or Czech. In this case an accompanying person must act as interpreter.

Payment of fees can be made cashlessly only with a Visa or MasterCard and cash only in Czech crowns.

For the collection of visas, applicants will be informed by the embassy by e-mail, also with regard to possible dates. Inquiries about the processing status or about applying for or collecting visas will not be answered.
